Why Get Medicare Supplement Insurance Early In The Year?
There are three significant reasons why its better to get a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan or a Medigap plan early in the year. Most companies do their price increases around the middle of the year, so you will ideally sign up for a plan prior to that rate hike. Many companies give you a 12-month rate “lock-in” period, during which you will pay the lower rate. This lets you avoid having to pay the higher rate when the company increases rates this summer.
Statistically, you are more likely to need medical care during the winter. We can’t rule out the flu, colds or pneumonia. There are also lots of other hazards in the winter that can cause this, particularly in areas where cold weather brings ice and power outages. Overall, it is more likely that you will need a doctor or the hospital in the winter than during warmer seasons.
Now that Medicare open enrollment is over, it is easier to get information on available plans because specialists aren’t answering calls almost without end. If you are new to Medicare, you can apply for Medicare plans without even thinking about open enrollment. Even if you’re not newly eligible, Medigap Insurance isn’t restricted to a specific open enrollment period.
Changing Medigap plans, or signing up for a plan if you don’t have one, can mean the difference between financial security and financial ruin.
