It’s amazing how many people think they can only switch Medicare  supplements during the anniversary enrollment period of November 15th  to December 31st. This isn’t the truth. The reality is that they can  switch at any time during the year, so long as they are medically qualified to do so. So make sure that detail is taken care of before  trying to switch over.
In other surprising news, Medicare Advantage plans are losing their  appeal from the point of view of the government, who are talking about scrapping Medicare Advantage altogether, or making serious cuts in the funding of the program (which will lead to higher out of pocket costs for those covered by a Medicare Advnatage plan).
Well Care and Coventry, two big names in Medicare health insurance, will no longer offer Medicare Advantage Private Fee for Services (PFFS) plans as of 2010, leaving their PFFS customers shopping for new coverage. If you are currently covered by one of these plans, you may enroll for new a Medicare Supplement plan between October 1 and December 31, and your new Medigap coverage will begin January 1, 2010.
