Aetna Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who is eligible for Medicare supplement insurance?

You may be eligible for Medicare supplement insurance if:

  • You are age 65 or older
  • You have a qualifying disability for which you have been receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for more than 24 months
  • You have been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (permanent kidney failure requiring a kidney transplant or dialysis).

What Medigap plans does Aetna sell?

Currently, Aetna sells plans A, B, F, G, a high-deductible Plan G, and N.

Plan F is not available to new enrollees.

They do not sell plans C, D, K, L, or M. If you’re looking for one of these other plans, contact Medigap Advisors for a recommendation.

Does Aetna Medicare supplement insurance cover skilled nursing care?

Aetna sells three plans to new enrollees that help pay for skilled nursing and rehab care for up to 90 days following a qualifying hospitalization: Plans D, G, and N. Aetna also operates Plan C and F, which also cover Medicare-qualifying skilled nursing and rehab care. But those two plans are closed to new enrollees.

Neither Medicare nor Medicare supplement insurance covers long-term custodial care for chronic conditions. To pay for that, you may want to consider long-term care insurance, or a hybrid life and long-term care insurance policy.

Does Aetna have a high-deductible Medicare supplement plan available?

Yes. It’s a variation of Plan G, which is a comprehensive Medicare supplement plan that covers all out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-qualified services except for the Part B deductible, which is $233 as of 2023.

Plan G is the most comprehensive Medicare supplement plan available to new enrollees. It also has the highest premiums. But you can pay a much lower premium with the high-deductible Plan G. As of 2023, the annual deductible for this plan is $2,490.

Once you meet that deductible for the year, the high deductible Plan G will pay all your out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-approved services. The $233 deductible for Part B will still apply.

I never have a problem finding a doctor who takes Aetna Medigap. I’ve had plans where I could only choose from one or two doctors in town and they were never that good always overworked and understaffed with long wait times but now i can pick the best doctors, not just the ones the insurance company picks. I get much better care now. Definitely recommend Aetna medigap thank you

Great customer service

My husband had a lot of health issues and a lot of medical bills before he died. It wasn’t easy, but Aetna took great care of us. They have a customer service number that’s available 24 hours a day, and that’s a big help when that’s the only time you have to go over bills and call with questions. All the customer service people were very helpful and understanding so thank you Aetna.

Go with Medigap, not Medicare Advantage

Rated 3.0 out of 5

We had an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan until a few years ago. But after they denied a claim, my broker suggested we switch to Medigap. Which is apparently a different system. My agent at Medigap Adivors told me that with Medicare Advantage, it’s the insurance company that decides whether to pay the claim. But with Medigap, it’s Medicare that decides, and Medigap insurance company has no choice but to pay their share – your deductible or Part B coinsurance, or whatever.

made the switch to an Aetna Medigap plan and have had no problems since then.

Not the cheapest. But maybe the best

Aetna’s not the cheapest option around. Other companies offer more discounts and perks. But My husband and I have both had major surgeries since joining their Medigap plan and we didn’t get any hassles. They even paid the bill we got from the physician that we had to submit later, no problem.

We’re planning on keeping Aetna.
