Medicare Supplement Plan N

Currently the Most Popular Medigap Plan at MediGap Advisors

Medicare Supplement Plan N is one of the two new Medigap plans introduced under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) as of June 1st, 2010.  With premiums approximately 40% less than the popular Medigap Plan F, Medicare Supplement Plan N has quickly become one of the best selling Medigap plans in years.

The reasons it is so popular:

  • Cost sharing and co-pays = BIG premium savings
  • Great alternative to Medicare Advantage
  • Great fit for new Medicare members familiar with co-pay concept
  • After the Part B Deductible, a $20 Office/$50 ER co-pay is the maximum amount the client pays when a provider accepts Medicare assignment

Note:  Some carriers, such as Mutual of Omaha, allow you to enroll in Medicare Supplement Plan N without asking all of the normal health questions, as long as you are replacing current coverage.  This means you may be able to enroll for this coverage if you have prior health concerns, even if it is outside of your open enrollment period.

Medicare Supplement Plan N covers all the plan basic services – your hospitalization co-insurance and your first three pits of blood, items not covered by original Medicare.  In addition to these basic services, Medigap Plan N also pays 100% of the Hospital deductible of Medicare Part A, and co-insurance for Medicare Skilled Nursing, and also includes the Foreign Travel Emergency Benefit.  For outpatient services like doctor visits or a trip to the emergency room, Medigap Plan N covers all of your Part B coinsurance except a $20 co-payment for doctor visits and $50 co-payment for ER visits.

Medicare Supplement Plan N covers:

  • Basic Benefits, including a new Hospice Benefit t and 100% Part B Coinsurance, except a $20 co-payment for office visits and a $50 co-payment for ER visits.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility Coinsurance
  • 100% Part A Deductible
  • Foreign Travel Emergency

Medicare Supplement Plan N does not cover your Part B deductible ($162); but all other approved services are paid for under Plan N, including lab work, diagnostics procedures, MRI’s Cat Scans, Pet Scans, Occupational, Speech and Language Therapy as well as other approved services.  You will have no additional cost or co-insurance payment up to 100% of the approved Medicare cost of service.

A major deciding factor that Medicare beneficiaries express when choosing Medigap Plan N over a Medicare Advantage plan is there are no networks that can limit your doctors’ choice.  As long as the doctors accepts and are approved Medicare providers you should find no push back to the acceptance of this plan, giving your more freedom and flexibility of provider at your disposal.

Not all Medigap (Medicare Supplement) providers offer Medigap Plan N.  MediGap Advisors recommends speaking with one of our independent, experts advisors to receive a recommendation on which plan may be best suited for your needs.  If you have any questions, call 866-323-1441 and we'll quickly give you the answers you are looking for.
