My Background As a young man, I sold health and life insurance, along with financial products in the insurance industry in Ohio for nine years. I enjoyed helping people solve their financial concerns and I also had a chance to visit some wonderful resorts as the winner of many company incentives. However, when our children, Matthew and Rae-Michelle, entered school, too many work evenings away from home kept me from being the father I wanted to be. So, I changed careers to enter the publishing industry. Within two years, I advanced to become a General Manager. For 27 years, I shepherded the company as our paper grew from 20 to 64 pages and our circulation exploded from 15,000 to 63,000 homes. When my children graduated from college, Rae-Mi moved to California and Matt relocated to Arizona. Then my wife of more than three decades, Francine, and I traveled to Sedona to visit our son, and our lives changed. Sedona is a Mecca for people who love biking and hiking as much as I have for the last 20 years. Here in Sedona, we have 113 marked hiking trails in some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S. We fell in love with this place and made it a goal to live there someday. Its majestic red rocks have a way of feeding one spiritually.

Someday arrived nine years later in 2008 when I retired from the newspaper and Fran sold the dance studio she had owned for 24 years to move to the place of our dreams. Today, we are in Sedona, Arizona and with our German shepherd, Max, and Siberian husky, Keva. Hiking has become a weekly endeavor and the wide biking lanes make riding here a dream. One potential stumbling block for our move was getting adequate health insurance at a premium we could afford.
